Haida Totem Pole Project
The aim of this project is to introduce artefacts of a different culture and to encourage the appreciation of these.
Then to research, design and make a reproduction Haida Totem pole using a range of materials; recycled paper, boxes, paper mache and paint.
This will involve developing the skills of research, design, modelling, 3D design, awareness of a different culture, sculpting, recycling, teamwork and negotiation with peers. An extension on learning will be making a bookmark in the Haida design style and having facial (temporary) tattoos.
The group was of mixed ability but each child had the chance to be involved in the creative process.
