This range of artwork has the beginnings of a complete change of style and thought process. The inspiration for the series comes from Deborah’s experience of working and living with people with different types of special needs, particularly those in the Austistic spectrum.
Children with special needs draw and paint in a particular way, disregarding preconceived ideas of what makes a painting an “attractive” image and ignoring composition, symmetry, perspective and the accepted use of colour.
What is often produced simply revels in mark making, finding fascination in texture, celebrating an intuitive feel for colour and defies the viewer not to delight in the end result.
